Description:

The Dramat’s Fall Season concludes with the musical Floyd Collins, an evocative portrait of the Kentucky man who became the tragic victim of the first media circus. An ambitious man, Floyd’s hopes and dreams were crushed when he became trapped in a cave, and the rest of the world became entrapped in his story. Set to a canon of exquisite folk-inspired music, it is based on a true story, and rallies around the enduring human spirit. This Mainstage Production will open on November 19th for a four day run in New Haven’s most beautiful theater, the 690-seat University Theater. Written by Yale alumni Tina Landau PC ‘84 and Adam Guettel BK ‘87, it has received the 1996 Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, an Obie for Best Score and seven Drama Desk nominations including Best Direction, Best Book and Best Musical. The show has many challenging singing and acting roles, as well as wonderful technical opportunities for lighting, costuming, sound and set building. Floyd Collins is set to memorable and moving music, and is truly a new gem in the musical theatre canon.
